Youthcast Bulletin

News from St. Therese Youth Group

At the NACCCRL Convention last summer, we acknowledged that the youth is the future of the parish. Without the youth, the parish is not alive. We were challenged to respond by building up our youth ministry. Joe Delfin was appointed as youth director to oversee student events and to also coordinate with other parishes and the Archdiocese. Joe also was the Chicago delegate to the Eastern Canada Chinese Catholic Living Camp in August. This fall, YouthCAST (The Youth Club At St. Therese) was formed for students in grades 6-12. We hope to build and cultivate friendships while giving the neighborhood, school, and parish youth opportunities to serve God and the community.

YouthCAST kicked off with a youth music program in early October called “Making the Band” Together with Dan Nicky, students learn to work together to form rock bands and learn electric guitar, electric bass, keyboard, drums, vocals, and music production. Through the experience, they are building stronger friendships and learning how to bring their differences to create harmony.

In November, YouthCAST hosted Cosmic Bowling at Waveland Bowl. On Thursday, December 27, we are hosting a Ski & Tubing Event at Villa Olivia in Bartlett , Illinois . Future YouthCAST events include arts & crafts, ice skating, open gym nights, the junior high retreat, field trips to religious sites, and participation in Archdiocese events like the regional celebration of World Youth Day in 2008.

The youth ministry is still looking for adult volunteers to help coordinate and create activities. We pray that the youth ministry will help encourage parishioners to actively participate toward the future of the parish.
