Our (Hidden) Poor
 
 

The changing economy has been cruel to much of Illinois. Since 1999, all but 15 of the state’s 102 counties Have seen poverty rates climb.

Figures speak for themselves:

- About 1.3 million people, which is 12% of its total population, live below the poverty line.
- 130,00 are senior citizens.
- 543,00 are children.
- 630,00 are white.
- 510,00 are black.
- 327,000 are Hispanic.
- 230,00 are immigrants.
- 300,00 are disabled

Can we close our hearts to them?

Demand for emergency food assistance is at an all-time high, and the cost of purchasing corporate donations are decreasing.
St. Therese Chinese Catholic Church and School is collecting canned vegetables, soups, chili, and stew etc.

Food donations could be left at the front of the church during any of the Masses. All donations will go to Catholic Charities.
